Liberty is a simple word. Defining liberty, however, is not so easy. Let's start at it's purest, most basic form. Liberty is the ability to choose. Without choice, there cannot be liberty. Whether liberty to you encompasses where to eat, what shoes to buy, who to serve or who not to serve (more on that later!), or any other discernible decision that could arise in one's life. If one chooses to do drugs, well, then that is that individual's decision. Which brings us to the most important detail of liberty: responsibility. Now I don't claim to be the most responsible person in any means (more on that later!) but if we are to develop a society who actually holds liberty as the most important political value, then we each need to grow up, shave off our neck-beards (for all you libertarian basement dwellers) and learn responsibility. I'm sure everyone is familiar with Spiderman's Uncle Ben's famous quote "With great power comes great responsibility," (RIP). If we want to live in the world that was described by our founding fathers, then we need to own up to our mistakes, learn from them, and correct them. And that does not stop at the individual on the way up to (YUUUGE) government. Liberty is a bottom-up antidote prescribed exactly to YOU the reader! Though I might warn you that side effects include but are not limited to: losing a certain 'berning' sensation; caring about politics and economics; a desire to learn the truth; endless books by the great Libertarian minds such as F.A. Hayek, Murray Rothbard, Ludwig Von Mises; and much much more as you fall deeper down the rabbit hole of liberty, freedom, and individualism. Now you can't say I didn't warn you, but if you are ready to emerge yourself, I can only promise that you will return, enlightened and eager to share these ideas. If you want to learn more about the ideas of liberty, just stay tuned, and welcome home!
